Floor seating only works when the cushion holds you up. This tufted floor pillow keeps roughly ten centimetres of loft even under a seated adult, stitched through in nine panels so it never flattens out, and wrapped in warm walnut jumbo corduroy.

  • Nine-panel tufted construction that holds its height
  • Warm walnut jumbo corduroy, at home with oak and cream
  • Sit cross-legged at a low table or soften a hard kitchen chair
  • Stack two in a corner for a spare seat
  • Three sizes to choose from

Put it on the floor, on a chair, or in a corner — it meets you wherever you sit.

For roughly eleven minutes, bare-floor sitting can feel pleasant. Then you begin moving your weight around, changing position at thirty-second intervals before settling on the sofa instead. The floor itself is not at fault; its hard surface simply offers little beneath a seated body. Even a deep rug does not supply the height of a cushion. Raising the seat above that hard surface changes where you sit, rather than asking the rug to become a seat.

Burrow has the depth and squared sides of a boxed cushion, not a thin floor pad. Its rounded sidewall holds approximately 10 cm of tufted filling, maintaining clearance beneath a seated adult instead of flattening during the first minute. Stitching passes through the entire depth across nine panels, creating nine sections that contain the fill. With filling unable to escape towards the perimeter, the centre avoids the dip that develops in almost all inexpensive floor cushions after two weeks. The construction keeps the raised seat in shape instead of letting its contents spread outwards.

Wide, substantial ribs and soft pile give the jumbo corduroy cover its texture. Its warm walnut-caramel brown pairs quietly with jute, oak and cream plaster. Two cushions stacked together in a corner look deliberately arranged because of that ribbed surface. That appearance matters for a piece that spends much of its time waiting to be used rather than supporting someone.

All three sizes retain an equal depth. Use 40 × 40 cm as a seat pad on a chair or for a child sitting on the floor. Most people choose 45 × 45 cm: crossed legs fit without knees extending past it, and two sit beside a low table. The 50 × 50 cm version is a full floor seat, also suited to a window ledge or low footstool top.

The cover stays attached, so clean the whole cushion where it is. Every few weeks, vacuum using a brush attachment along its ribs, not sideways over them, to remove dust and crumbs from the channels. For marks, follow the same direction with mild detergent on a cloth that is only slightly damp. Absorb remaining moisture by pressing with a dry towel, then let the cushion dry flat. Keep it clear of radiators and other direct heat, which can make the pile stiff. Machine washing and tumble drying are unsuitable: the full-depth tufting can pull and the filling can felt into permanent lumps. Restore flattened pile with a gentle brush. Every week or two, slap the cushion firmly and turn it to redistribute its contents. For a hallway or child's room likely to become dirty, cover it with a washable throw instead of washing the cushion itself.

A jumbo-cord polyester outer layer has broad corduroy ribs and soft brushed pile. Inside sits tufted PP-cotton filling, shaped into a box with a rounded sidewall approximately 10 cm deep. Nine tufted sections connect the underside and upper face rather than merely stitching the surface, keeping filling compartmentalised so the cushion retains its depth. All three sizes share a warm walnut-caramel colour, allowing different dimensions to be combined without a difference in shade.

Height makes the difference

Its 10 cm depth retains supportive height rather than flattening under weight.Through-tufting holds the fill evenly, keeping the seat comfortable as it is used.Soft jumbo corduroy offers grip, texture and a cosy, well-wearing surface finish.

Eleven minutes of bare-floor sitting

A bare floor feels comfortable for roughly that long before ankles and the base of your seat prompt a change of position. Added height, rather than a heavier rug, changes the seating surface. Approximately 10 cm of boxed filling holds its shape beneath you and provides a level seat clear of the ground, so time at a low table need not involve constantly rearranging how you sit.

Even fill from deep stitching

Tufting runs from the upper surface through to the underside, dividing the cushion into nine filled sections. Those nine panels keep filling from travelling towards the perimeter and creating a central dip, unlike many floor cushions that become uneven and flat within a month. Sitting compresses it by one or two centimetres before the shape stabilises.

Warm walnut across three sizes

Use the 40 × 40 cm option on a firm kitchen or dining seat, or 45 × 45 cm for a cross-legged floor position. The 50 × 50 cm size provides a full floor seat, ledge pad or covering for a low stool. Each uses walnut jumbo cord, letting different sizes sit together around a low table in a consistent finish.

Finally sit at the low table without fidgeting

We eat at a low table two or three nights a week and I used to be shifting about constantly by the time the food arrived. Bought two of the 45 cm and it's a completely different evening — you sit level and your feet don't go to sleep. It compresses maybe a centimetre or two under me and then stops, which is exactly what you want. The cord is nicer in person than on screen.

Ordered the small one, ended up using them as chair pads

Got the 40 cm for the floor and they've ended up on our kitchen chairs instead, which are wooden and brutal after twenty minutes. Perfect thickness for that. Fair warning though: 40 cm is genuinely small for sitting cross-legged on the floor, your knees hang off the edge. If that's the plan, get the 45 or the 50.

Holds its shape, which is the whole test

I've had two floor cushions before that went flat and lumpy inside a month. This one has been in daily use since spring and still has its height — I assume because the tufting goes all the way through instead of just being stitched on the surface. Colour is a warm mid-brown, a shade more caramel than it looked on my screen. There's no zip-off cover, so plan on spot-cleaning it.

How do I choose the size?
For most people, 45 × 45 cm is the useful middle size: it accommodates crossed legs without knees extending beyond the cushion, yet two can be stacked beside a low table. Pick 40 × 40 cm for a kitchen or dining chair, or a child's use; adults will find its floor-seating area narrow. At 50 × 50 cm, there is room for full floor seating, padding a window ledge or covering a low footstool. Thickness stays approximately 10 cm in every size, with only the area changing.
Will its thickness hold, unlike ordinary floor cushions?
Under your initial weight, the cushion drops by one or two centimetres, then retains its shape. Through-tufting, rather than a different filling, provides that stability. Nine panels connect the upper and lower faces, holding the contents in nine separate sections instead of letting them move towards the perimeter. That movement is what usually leaves a central dip after two weeks. As a boxed cushion rather than a beanbag, it offers a firm seat, not a surface you sink deeply into.
Can the cover come off for washing?
No — stitching passes through both fabric and filling, so the cover cannot unzip separately. Clean the assembled cushion. First use a vacuum's brush attachment along the ribs. For marks, follow the ribs with a lightly dampened cloth and a small amount of mild detergent, not across their direction. Use a dry towel to press out dampness, then dry the cushion flat without direct heat. In places likely to get dirty, such as a children's room or hallway, protect it using a throw that can be washed rather than removing its cover.
Can it move across wooden seating or a hard floor?
It moves less easily than cushions covered in smooth velvet or cotton. Deep ribs and the soft pile of jumbo cord catch against tile, microcement and wood. Its squared, flat underside also gives a steady footprint instead of rocking on a rounded edge. However, there is no rubber-backed gripping pad underneath. A polished glossy stone floor or slippery lacquered seat can still allow movement when you sit down heavily. It also has no fastening ties to secure it against a chair's back.
How does its actual colour look?
The shade is a warm, medium walnut-caramel brown, pairing quietly with terracotta, oak, jute and cream plaster. Corduroy's pile makes the raised ribs appear lighter as they catch illumination, with darker channels between them. That creates small changes in appearance as your viewing angle moves. A screen calibrated towards cool tones may make the brown seem greyer and more flat than the fabric itself; under warm indoor lighting, its colour has more of a caramel tone.
Does it support an adult firmly, or is the cushion intended only for children?
It is designed to carry an adult. Approximately 10 cm of tufted filling in a squared shape supports a grown person with crossed legs, keeping the seat above the ground. That clearance explains why depth matters more than area. Adults who sit with legs crossed should choose 45 × 45 cm or 50 × 50 cm. This is neither a mattress nor a meditation zafu: it has a flat seating surface, unlike an angled meditation cushion, and does not tip the pelvis towards the front.
